A new energy-efficient cryptocurrency seems to be under development at Microsoft...

It is well known that Microsoft is interested in blockchain technology. At the end of last year, reports surfaced that the company was looking into leveraging such technology in order to make artificial intelligence more tempting for new customers.
Looking to more recent times though, Microsoft has just filed a patent for a new cryptocurrency system that would rely on simple body activities rather than the usual computation power in mining weeks.
Titled “Cryptocurrency System Using Body Activity Data”, the patent shows that Microsoft intends to create a cryptocurrency that would be powered by basic body activities rather than miners and the energy that they consume.
One of the key things to note though is that for those that intend to mine the new cryptocurrency from Microsoft, a massive amount of energy will not be required as body heat generated from simple activities such as viewing an ad or scrolling on the Internet will be enough to mine it. Because of this, the new cryptocurrency will save a lot of energy which is very different to the majority of digital assets in the space today including bitcoin.
With this in mind, users will be able to solve the required complex computational puzzles without having to think about them too much and waste energy in the process.
Regarding how the new system will actually function, the patent highlighted that a task could be provided by the server to the device of a user that is linked into the server. This device will be wearable and will sense the body activity from the user and through this will be able to generate data.
